Galveston County court records changed portals: use the correct 2026 search route
A Galveston County court-record search is no longer as simple as following an old “Public Access” link. The county’s former Tyler Public Access application reached end of support on December 31, 2025. Galveston County now directs users to the Tyler Odyssey Portal or, for qualifying civil, family, and probate records, re:SearchTX.
There is another important local distinction: the District Clerk and County Clerk maintain different court records, Justice of the Peace cases have their own precinct-level access routes, and city Municipal Courts are separate from the county court-record system.
The 2026 portal change is the first thing to understand
The former Galveston County Odyssey Public Access site now carries an end-of-support warning. It states that after December 31, 2025 the old Tyler Public Access software would no longer receive official security or bug-fix updates and directs users to newer systems.
Older bookmarks and articles pointing to the previous Public Access application should no longer be treated as the preferred route.
Galveston County’s current portal provides Smart Search for court records and a separate Search Hearings function.
Galveston County identifies re:SearchTX as an alternate route for family, probate, and civil case information. Access to documents depends on registration, case type, security level, and Texas access rules.
Which Galveston County office actually holds the case?
This is more important than the name you are searching. The same person’s name can appear in a District Court, County Court at Law, Probate Court, Justice Court, Municipal Court, Texas appellate court, or federal court.
| If you need… | Likely custodian / court | Best starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Felony criminal case | Galveston County District Clerk / District Court | Tyler Odyssey Portal → Smart Search |
| District-level civil lawsuit | District Clerk Civil Section | Odyssey Portal or re:SearchTX |
| Divorce / custody / child support / name change | District Clerk Family Section; 306th District Court is Galveston County’s dedicated family district court | Odyssey Portal or re:SearchTX, subject to privacy restrictions |
| County misdemeanor case | County Clerk / County Court at Law | Current County Court records search / Odyssey Portal |
| County-level civil case | County Clerk / County Court at Law | Odyssey Portal or re:SearchTX |
| Probate / estate / guardianship | Galveston County Clerk / statutory Probate Court | Odyssey Portal or re:SearchTX |
| Small claims / eviction / JP civil case | Correct Justice of the Peace precinct | Official Galveston County JP court page and its Case Search |
| City traffic / ordinance / Class C misdemeanor | City Municipal Court | The specific city’s Municipal Court, not the District Clerk |
| Texas appeal | First or Fourteenth Court of Appeals in many Galveston County appeals; special cases can fall within Fifteenth Court jurisdiction | Texas appellate Case Search |
| Federal Galveston case | U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas — Galveston Division | PACER |
Galveston County Court Record Route Finder
Select the record you are trying to find
This tool does not submit a name or case number. It only points you toward the appropriate official record system.
Galveston County’s District Clerk Criminal Section maintains District Court criminal records. After finding the correct cause, review the case events and current disposition rather than treating an arrest or charge as the final outcome.
The District Clerk’s Civil Section maintains matters including contract disputes, consumer lawsuits, personal injury cases, and delinquent-tax suits. Search Odyssey or qualifying re:SearchTX records.
The Family Section maintains adoption, child-support, custody, divorce, family-protection, and name-change cases. Remote access can be narrower because family and juvenile records may contain confidential information.
The County Clerk supports the County Courts at Law, including misdemeanor court records. Do not send an ordinary county misdemeanor search to the District Clerk felony division.
Galveston County has a statutory Probate Court. Search qualifying probate case information through Odyssey or re:SearchTX and request certified documents from the County Clerk when required.
JP courts handle their own cases. Galveston County’s official Justice of the Peace section provides precinct pages and case-search links. Do not assume a District Clerk search covers the matter.
Traffic, parking, Class C misdemeanors, and city-ordinance cases can belong to a municipal court. The City of Galveston, League City, Texas City, and other municipalities maintain separate court operations.
The current Galveston Odyssey Portal specifically tells users to use Search Hearings for hearing dates and times rather than relying on an old calendar tutorial.
The District Clerk provides an online Request for Copies form for documents previously filed in that office. County Clerk copies use the County Clerk’s records procedures and fee schedule.
Galveston County is within the geographical jurisdiction served by both Houston’s First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals for many ordinary civil and criminal appeals. Some specialized civil matters can fall under the Fifteenth Court’s statewide jurisdiction.
The federal Galveston Division is separate from Galveston County’s state courts. The federal courthouse is at 601 Rosenberg, Galveston.
The District Clerk advertises more than 100 years of historical records, but that does not mean every historical document is digitized or remotely downloadable. Have the approximate year, court, party name, and cause number ready.
How to search the current Galveston County Odyssey Portal
The current Tyler Odyssey Portal presents two especially useful public functions:
- Smart Search — search court records.
- Search Hearings — search hearings for a specified date range.
The county’s official portal help confirms that advanced filters are available inside Smart Search and that the Filter by Search Type menu offers multiple search methods.
- Open the current Tyler Odyssey Portal. Do not begin from an old bookmarked Public Access URL.
- Select Smart Search.
- Enter the most reliable search identifier you have. A known cause/case number is generally more precise than a common party name.
- When a basic search is too broad, open Advanced Filtering Options.
- Use Filter by Search Type. Galveston County’s official advanced-search guide confirms that additional methods such as attorney name and attorney bar number are available.
- Apply only filters you know are correct. Incorrect court, date, or party information can hide the correct result.
- Open the matching case.
- Verify the court and cause number. Do not identify a person from a common-name match alone.
- Review events, orders, hearings, and disposition information that is publicly displayed.
- If a needed document is not available remotely, request it from the proper clerk.
Odyssey vs re:SearchTX: they are not identical
After the 2025 Public Access retirement, Galveston County specifically pointed users toward both Odyssey Portal and re:SearchTX.
| Feature | Galveston Odyssey Portal | re:SearchTX |
|---|---|---|
| Main local role | Current Galveston County case and hearing search platform | Texas court-record access platform integrated with participating local clerks |
| Criminal cases | Use Odyssey for Galveston criminal case search | Galveston County’s transition notice does not identify re:SearchTX as the criminal-record replacement for public users |
| Civil | Available through local search subject to access rules | Galveston County identifies Civil as an eligible category |
| Family | Case access subject to family-record restrictions | Galveston County identifies Family as an eligible category |
| Probate | County Probate records route | Galveston County identifies Probate as an eligible category |
| Hearing lookup | Dedicated Search Hearings function | Hearing information may appear where supplied, but Odyssey is the direct Galveston hearing route |
| Document access | Depends on case/document security | Registered-user document access depends on clerk integration, case type, and security level |
District Clerk records: what belongs here?
The Galveston County District Clerk is the custodian of records lawfully deposited in the clerk’s office for the courts served by the District Clerk.
The current District Clerk site separates its work into important record categories.
District civil
The Civil Section specifically identifies contract cases, consumer lawsuits, personal-injury matters, and delinquent-tax suits among the records it maintains.
District criminal
The Criminal Section provides the county’s official criminal court-record search route for District Court cases. Felony prosecutions generally belong here rather than in County Clerk misdemeanor records.
Family
The Family Section maintains adoption, child support, custody, divorce, family-protection, and name-change cases.
Galveston County’s District Courts
The current District Clerk directory identifies these Galveston County District Courts:
| Court | Primary local description | Current phone |
|---|---|---|
| 10th District Court | Civil / criminal District Court | Court coordinator: 409-766-2230 |
| 56th District Court | Civil / criminal District Court | 409-766-2226 |
| 122nd District Court | Civil / criminal District Court | 409-766-2275 |
| 212th District Court | Civil / criminal District Court | 409-766-2266 |
| 306th District Court | Galveston County’s family District Court | 409-766-2255 |
| 405th District Court | Civil / criminal District Court | 409-765-2688 |
Individual court pages publish Daily Docket links and court-specific procedures. Pleadings and motions, however, are filed through the District Clerk rather than sent directly to a judge or court staff by ordinary email or fax unless an official rule expressly provides otherwise.
County Clerk records: misdemeanor, county civil, and probate
The Galveston County Clerk serves as clerk of the county court and maintains the county-court records within that office.
The County Clerk’s current Court Information page identifies these courts under the County Clerk:
- County Court at Law No. 1;
- County Court at Law No. 2;
- County Court at Law No. 3; and
- Galveston County Probate Court.
County Court at Law No. 1, for example, expressly identifies jurisdiction involving criminal misdemeanors, family and juvenile matters, and civil lawsuits. Actual assignments can vary between statutory county courts, so use the case record and current court assignment rather than assuming every category always goes to one numbered court.
County Court records are not the same as real-property records
The County Clerk’s website offers separate search routes for:
- court records;
- real property;
- marriage records;
- assumed names / DBA records; and
- other recorded instruments.
Probate records have their own Galveston County court
Galveston County has a dedicated statutory Probate Court at the Justice Center.
Galveston County Probate Court
Address: 600 59th Street, Suite 2305, Galveston, TX 77551
Phone: 409-766-2251
Record custodian
Probate filings are handled through the Galveston County Clerk. Search qualifying case information through Odyssey or re:SearchTX, then use the County Clerk for copies and certification.
Family and divorce records: search the docket, protect sensitive information
The Galveston County District Clerk Family Section maintains:
- adoption cases;
- child-support cases;
- custody cases;
- divorces;
- family-protection cases; and
- name changes.
The 306th District Court is specifically identified by Galveston County as its Family Court and provides a Family Case Search route that can search by cause number or name.
If you need a divorce decree
- Search the family case and confirm the cause number.
- Confirm that the case is in Galveston County rather than another Texas county.
- Identify the specific final decree or order you need.
- Do not assume the online docket page itself is the decree.
- If a downloadable document is not available, use the District Clerk’s Request for Copies procedure.
- If an institution requires official proof, request a certified copy.
Justice of the Peace cases are a separate Galveston County layer
Galveston County currently maintains four Justice of the Peace precincts. Their webpages provide precinct-specific court information, and several precinct pages include dedicated Case Search links.
Justice Court matters can include, depending on jurisdiction:
- small claims;
- other JP civil claims;
- evictions / landlord-tenant cases;
- traffic matters;
- certain Class C misdemeanors or other lower-level cases; and
- other proceedings authorized by Texas law.
How to route a Justice Court search
- Identify the precinct if known.
- Open the official Galveston County Justice of the Peace Courts page.
- Select the correct precinct.
- Use that precinct’s official Case Search link where provided.
- If the correct precinct is uncertain, use the precinct map or contact the court before assuming which JP holds the case.
- For an old matter, ask the precinct whether the file remains available and whether it is electronic or paper.
Municipal court cases may never belong in the county search
This is an important Galveston County localization issue because the county contains multiple incorporated cities.
A municipal traffic ticket or Class C misdemeanor can be maintained by the city that issued the citation rather than the Galveston County District Clerk or County Clerk.
| Example city court | Typical jurisdiction described by the city | Official contact |
|---|---|---|
| City of Galveston Municipal Court of Record | Municipal dockets and city-court cases | 601 54th St., Suite 300, Galveston; 409-765-3740 |
| League City Municipal Court | Traffic and parking violations, Class C misdemeanors, city ordinances | 200 W. Walker, League City; 281-554-1060 |
| Texas City Municipal Court | Municipal-court cases | 1004 9th Avenue N, Texas City; 409-643-5800 |
How to find a Galveston County court date in 2026
The current Odyssey landing page expressly tells users to use the Search Hearings feature to obtain hearing date and time information.
- Open the current Galveston Odyssey Portal.
- Select Search Hearings.
- Choose the date range supported by the current portal.
- Apply the available case/court filters.
- Confirm the cause number and court.
- Review the hearing date and time.
- For a hearing occurring soon, compare the result with the individual court’s Daily Docket where available.
- If there is any conflict, contact the court coordinator or records office before traveling.
Daily Dockets can answer a different question than Case Search
Galveston County’s District Court pages publish Daily Docket resources for several courts.
Use:
Case Search
When you need the case history, parties, events, orders, or cause number.
Search Hearings
When you need a hearing in a specified date range.
Daily Docket
When you want to understand what a particular court is scheduled to hear on a particular day.
How to interpret a Galveston County case result
Once you locate a case, do not stop at the party name or case caption.
| Record element | What it helps establish | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Cause / case number | The specific court file | That a person with a similar name is the same individual |
| Case type | The general category of litigation | The final outcome |
| Party role | Why the person or business appears in the case | Wrongdoing merely from being named |
| Case events | Chronological docket activity | That every event remains legally effective |
| Charge | The criminal allegation presented in the case | Conviction |
| Order | A ruling or direction entered by the court | That it is necessarily the final order in the case |
| Judgment / disposition | An outcome at a particular stage | That no later appeal, satisfaction, vacation, modification, or other activity occurred |
Arrest, charge, indictment, and conviction are not interchangeable
Name collision: verify the person before associating a case
Several people can share the same first and last name. A responsible Galveston County records search compares multiple lawful identifiers.
- full name;
- middle name or initial;
- suffix;
- cause number;
- court;
- filing date;
- party role;
- case type;
- attorney information where displayed; and
- date-of-birth or address information only when lawfully available and genuinely necessary.
District Clerk copy fees: exact 2026 schedule
The Galveston County District Clerk’s current Civil and Family Filing and Service Fee Schedule is effective January 1, 2026.
Its miscellaneous-copy section lists:
| District Clerk service | 2026 fee | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Certificate and seal for certified copy | $5 | Certification charge for paper or electronic certified copies, in addition to applicable copy charges. |
| Paper copy | $1 per page | Also applies when a paper record must be converted for electronic delivery. |
| Existing electronic copy | Minimum $1 through 10 pages; then $0.10 per page or part of a page | Applies to electronic records under the District Clerk’s current fee schedule. |
| Exemplification | Additional $5 exemplification certificate | An exemplified copy is not the same thing as an ordinary certified copy. |
| Service copy | $0.25 per page | The schedule notes electronic citations and other electronic service documents are not subject to service-copy costs. |
District Clerk fees verified: August 30, 2026 against the fee schedule effective January 1, 2026.
County Clerk court-copy fees are similar—but use the correct schedule
Galveston County Clerk’s current 2026 court fee materials list common copy charges including:
| County Clerk service | 2026 amount | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Paper copy | $1 per page | For qualifying County Clerk court records. |
| Certified copy | $5 certification + $1 per page | Use when an official certified County Clerk court document is required. |
| Authenticated copy | $8 + $1 per page | Do not call authentication, certification, and exemplification the same service. |
| Electronic copy | $1 through 10 pages, then $0.10 per additional page or part | Verify the specific court division and record before ordering. |
How to request District Clerk copies
The District Clerk provides an online Request for Copies form specifically for previously filed documents held by that office.
The county warns that this form cannot be used to ask the clerk to create a report or produce a list of cases.
- Find the case first.
- Save the complete cause number.
- Identify the exact filing or order you need.
- Confirm the document belongs to a court served by the District Clerk.
- Open the District Clerk Request for Copies page.
- Complete the captcha and request information.
- Specify plain, certified, or other copy type when the form provides that option.
- Verify the number of pages and current fee if staff confirmation is needed.
- Complete payment using the method provided by the clerk.
- Save the request confirmation.
Older Galveston County court records: do not assume “not online” means “destroyed”
The District Clerk currently promotes access to historical records spanning more than 100 years. That statement should not be interpreted as a promise that every historical file is indexed online or that every document image is downloadable.
Use this older-record workflow
- Estimate the filing year.
- Determine whether it was District Court, County Court, Probate Court, Justice Court, or Municipal Court.
- Search the current Odyssey index first where relevant.
- Record the cause number if a matching index result appears.
- Identify the exact document needed.
- Contact the appropriate clerk rather than a random county department.
- Ask whether the record is electronic, paper, microfilmed, stored off-site, transferred, sealed, confidential, or no longer retained.
- Ask whether there is a retrieval or copy charge.
- For an official-use document, specify certification before the clerk processes the request.

Texas appellate records for a Galveston County case
Galveston County lies in the geographical appellate jurisdiction served by Houston’s First Court of Appeals and Fourteenth Court of Appeals for many ordinary appeals from county and district courts.
Texas law and local appellate procedures provide for distribution of cases between those two courts. Do not assume that every Galveston County appeal automatically belongs to one of them based only on the county name.
Texas also now has a Fifteenth Court of Appeals with statewide civil jurisdiction and exclusive jurisdiction over certain cases involving Texas state government and Texas Business Court appeals.
How to trace an appeal
- Find the trial-court cause number.
- Review the trial docket for a notice of appeal.
- Search the Texas appellate case system.
- Use the trial court number or appellate case number where supported.
- Confirm whether the case was assigned to the First, Fourteenth, or another court with special jurisdiction.
- Open appellate docket entries and opinions/orders.
- Do not assume the trial-court docket contains every appellate filing.
Federal Galveston records: Southern District of Texas
A federal case is not a Galveston County court case even when the federal courthouse is physically located in Galveston.

PACER pricing verified August 30, 2026
| PACER service | Current amount | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic case information | $0.10 per billable page | Search-result pages can be billable even when no matches are found. |
| Single document | Generally capped at $3 | The cap does not apply to name-search result pages, non-case-specific reports, or transcripts. |
| Quarterly waiver | $30 or less | PACER currently waives charges when quarterly usage totals $30 or less. |
| Audio file | $2.40 | Applies to qualifying audio files available through PACER. |
PACER has announced a temporary pricing change beginning January 1, 2027. Recheck PACER’s official pricing before conducting a large search after that date.
Court records are not the same as jail records
| If you need… | Use… | Do not substitute… |
|---|---|---|
| Current jail custody | Galveston County Sheriff’s jail / custody source | Court docket |
| Booking information | Sheriff / jail | District Clerk case search |
| Felony court case | District Clerk / Odyssey | Jail roster |
| Misdemeanor court case | County Clerk / County Court at Law record | Arrest record |
| Final case disposition | Court docket / certified court record | Booking charge |
Court records are also different from Texas open-records requests
Texas court case records are not simply treated as ordinary Texas Public Information Act requests.
Texas courts and Judicial Branch agencies have separate legal rules governing judicial and court case records. When you need a document that was filed in a lawsuit, criminal case, probate case, or family proceeding, begin with the clerk maintaining that case record rather than filing a generic county open-records request.
Sealed, juvenile, mental-health, and protected records
Texas generally recognizes public access to court case records, but the right is not absolute.
Examples of records that can have statutory or court-ordered restrictions include:
- juvenile case records;
- mental-health proceedings;
- sealed civil records;
- expunged or restricted criminal records;
- adoption information;
- protected family information;
- documents containing unredacted sensitive data; and
- other records restricted by statute, rule, or court order.
What if Odyssey shows a case but no document?
A case index, docket, case event, and document image are different things.
Case index
Confirms basic indexed information about the case.
Docket / events
Shows chronological case activity.
Document image
The actual filing, order, motion, or other document.
Certified copy
An official copy certified by the responsible clerk.
A document can be public while its image is unavailable through the remote portal. In that situation, request the document from the responsible clerk rather than assuming it does not exist.

Frequently asked questions about Galveston County court records
1. What is the current official Galveston County court records search?
Galveston County now directs court-record users to the Tyler Odyssey Portal. Select Smart Search to search court records and Search Hearings for hearing information. The former Tyler Public Access application reached end of support on December 31, 2025. re:SearchTX is also identified as an alternate route for qualifying Family, Probate, and Civil records.
2. Can I search Galveston County court records by name?
Yes, party information can be used in the current court-record search workflow where publicly available. For a common name, verify the cause number, court, filing date, party role and other lawful identifying information before assuming a result belongs to a particular person.
3. What is the difference between the Galveston County District Clerk and County Clerk?
The District Clerk maintains records for courts served by that office, including District Court civil, criminal and family matters. The County Clerk maintains County Court and County Court at Law records and serves as clerk for the Galveston County Probate Court. Searching the wrong clerk can cause a valid case to appear missing.
4. Where do I find Galveston County felony court records?
Start with the Galveston County District Clerk and the current Tyler Odyssey Portal. The District Clerk’s Criminal Section provides the official District Court criminal-record route. Review the disposition rather than treating the original charge as proof of conviction.
5. Where do I find Galveston County misdemeanor records?
County-level misdemeanor cases are generally maintained through the Galveston County Clerk and County Courts at Law. Use the county’s current court-record search and confirm the assigned County Court at Law before requesting copies.
6. How do I search Galveston County probate records?
Galveston County has a statutory Probate Court. Probate records are filed through the County Clerk. Search qualifying information through the current Odyssey Portal or re:SearchTX and request certified copies from the County Clerk when official proof is required.
7. How do I find a current Galveston County court date?
Use the Search Hearings function in the current Tyler Odyssey Portal. Individual District Court and County Court pages can also publish Daily Dockets. Because schedules can change, verify an imminent hearing against the current docket or directly with the assigned court.
8. How much does a certified Galveston County District Clerk copy cost?
The District Clerk’s 2026 fee schedule lists a $5 certificate-and-seal fee for certified copies plus the applicable copy charge. Paper copies are $1 per page. Existing electronic copies have a minimum $1 charge through 10 pages and then $0.10 per additional page or part of a page. Fees were verified August 30, 2026.
9. Are Galveston city traffic tickets found in the county District Court search?
Not necessarily. Municipal traffic, parking, Class C misdemeanor and city-ordinance cases can belong to the issuing city’s Municipal Court. For example, the City of Galveston and League City operate their own municipal courts. Check the court name printed on the citation before choosing a search system.
10. Can Galveston County court records be used for employment or tenant screening?
Public-Court-Records.us is not a Consumer Reporting Agency and must not be treated as an FCRA consumer-reporting service for employment, tenant, credit, insurance or similar eligibility decisions. A court-record name match also does not provide fingerprint-level identity verification and may belong to another person with the same name.
