Public-Court-Records.us is independent. It is not the Adams County Circuit Clerk, Adams County government, Illinois Courts, Judici, a judge, law firm, sheriff, PACER, federal court or Consumer Reporting Agency. This guide provides general record-access information and is not legal advice.

Use court records carefully: an arrest, citation, criminal charge, complaint, petition, lawsuit or indictment does not establish guilt or liability. A matching name does not prove that a record belongs to a specific person.

Do not use this page as an employment, tenant, credit, insurance or other FCRA-regulated background-screening product.

Best starting point

The Adams County Circuit Clerk is the court-record custodian

Adams County uses Illinois Circuit Court rather than separate county, superior and district trial courts. The Circuit Clerk maintains the court files created in Adams County and provides the county’s official public-search route.

The county’s own Circuit Clerk page links users to Judici for online court-record access. Judici is the web platform displaying data supplied by participating circuit clerks; it is not the court itself. Questions about a case, missing data, certified copies or corrections should go to the Adams County Circuit Clerk.

8th Judicial Circuit

Adams shares the circuit with Brown, Calhoun, Cass, Mason, Menard, Pike and Schuyler Counties.

4th Appellate District

Appeals from Adams County trial matters generally route into Illinois’ Fourth Appellate District.

1987 Judici coverage clue

Judici states Adams County criminal and civil files in its system are current from 1987.

1960 Archive warning

The Circuit Clerk asks users researching cases before 1960 to call before visiting.

Useful local distinction: Adams County court records are different from the Recorder of Deeds’ land records and from the Adams County Sheriff’s jail information. A lawsuit or criminal court disposition belongs with the Circuit Clerk; a deed belongs with the Recorder; current jail custody belongs with the Sheriff.

Which Adams County court-record route should you use?

Illinois Circuit Court is a court of general jurisdiction, so many case categories are maintained by one Circuit Clerk but assigned different divisions. The record-search problem is therefore usually choosing the correct case type, not finding a separate county trial-court system.

Online case search

How to search Adams County court records through Judici

The Adams County Circuit Clerk links its official “Search Court Records” page directly to the Adams County Judici case-search interface. That makes Judici the clerk-authorized online search platform, while the Circuit Clerk remains the official record custodian.

Begin on the Adams County Circuit Clerk website.

Using the county website first confirms that you are following the clerk-authorized search route instead of an unrelated commercial records site.

Open “Search Court Records.”

The county route sends you to the Adams County Judici case-search page.

Use the case number when available.

A case number is usually more precise than a broad name search and reduces the risk of confusing people with similar names.

If searching a name, verify the whole result.

Compare case type, filing date, court, party role, attorney, hearing information and docket activity. Never connect a court case to someone based on a common name alone.

Read docket events chronologically.

A charge, complaint, summons or motion is not the final outcome. Look for later orders, dismissals, pleas, judgments, sentencing entries or other disposition information.

Call the Circuit Clerk when online information is insufficient.

The county specifically tells users who cannot find a case online to call the Circuit Clerk at 217-277-2100.

Coverage date matters: Judici states that Adams County criminal and civil files in its database are current from 1987. A case that predates online coverage may still exist in the Clerk’s physical or archived records.
Restricted records: the Adams County Circuit Clerk states that records ordered suppressed, impounded or confidential cannot be viewed or accessed. Judici also explains that information marked secured by a participating clerk does not become available merely by purchasing premium access.
Court dates and dockets

Checking today’s Adams County court docket and regular court schedule

Adams County publishes a current court-docket route and a separate Judicial Department schedule. The docket page says that if it is accessed on a weekend, it shows the upcoming court date.

The regular schedule also illustrates how locally specific Adams County court operations are: different courtrooms are assigned to misdemeanors, felonies, divorce/family hearings, probate, juvenile matters, small claims, foreclosures/civil matters, first appearances and other case groups.

Copies and search fees

Adams County Circuit Clerk copy, certification and record-search fees

The current Adams County miscellaneous fee document lists specific charges for reproduction, certification, record searches and mailing. These are more useful for a records researcher than unrelated civil-case filing fees.

Adams County Circuit Clerk record-related fees reviewed September 30, 2026
Service Listed fee What it means for a record request
First reproduced page $2.00 First page of a document reproduced from the Clerk’s files.
Next 19 pages $0.50 per page Applies after the first page through the next 19 reproduced pages.
Additional pages $0.25 per page Applies to pages after the first 20 pages under the fee schedule.

Mailing $10.00 plus postage Confirm the exact mailing charge and payment method with the Clerk before sending payment.

Official copies

How to request an Adams County certified court record

A Judici docket printout is useful for research, but it is not automatically the same as an official certified court record. Certification comes from the Circuit Clerk that maintains the original court file.

Locate the case first.

Save the full case number, names and filing year. If the case is not on Judici, ask the Clerk to help identify it.

Identify the exact document.

Examples include a judgment, dismissal order, divorce judgment, probate order, sentence, disposition or another filed document.

Tell the Clerk why you need certification.

Ask which form of certification or authentication is appropriate rather than assuming an ordinary photocopy will be accepted by another court or agency.

Confirm page count and current fee.

Copy cost can depend on the number of pages, certification, archive retrieval and mailing.

Confirm delivery and payment instructions.

The Clerk lists in-person and mail services for various office functions. Call before mailing a record request so you know what payment and return materials are currently required.

Older records

Older Adams County cases: 1987 online coverage does not mean older files disappeared

This is one of the most important local details for Adams County. Judici says its Adams County criminal and civil files are current from 1987, while the Circuit Clerk separately states that cases prior to 1960 are stored in archives.

The Clerk asks researchers interested in a pre-1960 case to call before making the trip. That gives staff time to locate the archived file and have it ready to view.

1987 or newer

Start with Adams County Judici. A case can still be unavailable online because it is restricted, recently filed or otherwise outside public electronic access.

1960–1986

If it is not online, call the Circuit Clerk. Do not assume no online result means no case exists.

Before 1960

Call before visiting. The Clerk specifically identifies these cases as stored in archives and says advance contact gives staff time to retrieve the file.

Historical search tip: provide an approximate year, full party names, alternate spellings, case type and any old case number you have. Older indexes and archived files may not behave like a modern online name search.

Docket literacy

How to read an Adams County docket without over-interpreting it

Party roles

Plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, appellant, appellee, decedent, representative, guardian and ward describe procedural roles. A person’s presence in a case does not automatically mean wrongdoing.

Docket events

Complaint, petition, summons, motion, notice, hearing, order, continuance, judgment, plea, dismissal and sentence should be read in sequence rather than individually.

Disposition

A criminal charge may later be dismissed or result in a plea, trial or acquittal. A civil judgment can later be satisfied, vacated, appealed or modified. Check later entries.

Name-collision warning: several people may share the same name. Verify the court, case number, filing date, party role, case category and other lawful identifiers before assuming a result belongs to a particular person.
