Cobb County GA Court Records Search: choose the court before you search the name
A Cobb County court records search is not one database. Superior Court, State Court, Magistrate Court and Probate Court maintain different case types and use different public-search interfaces. Juvenile Court has significant confidentiality restrictions, while traffic or ordinance cases inside Cobb’s incorporated cities can belong to a separate Municipal Court.
The fastest way to find the right record is therefore not to type a name into a generic search box. First determine which Cobb court could legally have the case, then use that court’s official search system.

Cobb County Court Record Route Finder
Select the record type. This tool only identifies the likely official court. It does not collect names, case numbers, birth dates or other personal information.
Magistrate Court can contain the warrant and preliminary stage. If the felony advances, the trial-level prosecution belongs in Superior Court.
Open Cobb Superior Court Records SearchIf the arrest is recent and State Court shows nothing, the State Court Clerk specifically warns that the accusation may not have been formally filed yet. Check Magistrate Court or the Solicitor General stage before concluding no case exists.
Open Cobb State Court SearchCobb State and Superior Courts have overlapping civil jurisdiction. Magistrate Court is the practical route for qualifying claims at or below $15,000, including many dispossessory actions.
Search the Superior Court case first. If you need the actual final divorce decree rather than docket information, use the Superior Court Clerk’s copy-request or eCertification process.
Superior Court Copy RequestsIt supports civil and criminal case searching and includes separate case types for matters such as small claims, dispossessory cases and other Magistrate proceedings.
Search Cobb Magistrate CourtNo login is required for the ordinary public Probate Court record/docket interface. Probate also maintains deep historical filing indexes extending back to 1825.
Cobb Probate Case Status & RecordsUnincorporated Cobb traffic goes to State Court. Marietta, Smyrna, Powder Springs, Acworth, Kennesaw and Austell operate Municipal Courts for qualifying violations occurring within their city limits.
Federal: Cobb County belongs to the Atlanta Division of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia; federal dockets use PACER.
Cobb does not have one court-record search portal
Four public-search routes matter most for ordinary Cobb research:
Superior Court Records Search
The Superior Court Clerk provides separate public access to court records and real-estate records. Court case searching includes separate Civil and Criminal search routes.
Superior Records SearchState Court Enhanced Search
Search civil, misdemeanor and traffic records using the Cobb State Court docket-search system.
State Court SearchMagistrate Judicial Records Search
Use the Magistrate portal for qualifying civil cases, warrants/criminal proceedings and other Magistrate matters.
Magistrate SearchProbate Case Status & Records
Probate operates a separate portal for estates, wills and other Probate Court matters, including publicly available document images.
Probate SearchState Court has the most detailed public name-search controls
Cobb State Court’s enhanced record system provides one of the clearest public-search workflows in the county.
The official search currently separates Civil and Criminal records and supports several query methods.
State Court name-search fields
| Search field | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Last Name / Company Name | Use the person’s surname or the organization name. |
| First Name | Add it to narrow a person search. |
| Middle Name | Useful when several parties share the same first/last name. |
| Birth Year | Available in criminal searching; enter all four digits when used. |
| Phonetic search | Applies to first/last-name searching and can help with spelling variation. |
| Filing Date | Use start/end dates to narrow broad result sets. |
| Case Number | Best choice when you already know the exact court case. |
| Citation / Tag Number | The current portal limits these particular fields to school-bus cases. |
How to search Cobb State Court records by name
- Open Cobb’s official Court Connect page. Use the county’s State Court Clerk page as the entry point.
- Open the enhanced docket search. Choose State Court Record Search.
- Select Civil or Criminal. Do this before entering the name so the system searches the correct record group.
- Enter the surname or company name. Add the first name when known.
- Add middle name or birth year only when useful. Birth year applies to the criminal search and should be entered as four digits.
- Use phonetic search if spelling is uncertain. The official guide says the phonetic option applies to first and last names.
- Add a filing-date range for a common name. This can prevent an overly broad result.
- Review the court result rather than selecting the first name match. Compare case number, filing date, party status and case type.
- Open the case details and read later events. The initial accusation, complaint or citation does not automatically tell you how the case ended.
- Save the case number for copies, court dates and follow-up. A known case number is more reliable than repeating a broad name search.
State Court online coverage has specific start dates
| Record category | Online coverage currently stated by Cobb |
|---|---|
| Civil | Cases filed from March 17, 1997 through the current year. |
| Traffic and misdemeanor | Cases filed from April 26, 1999 through the current year. |
State Court data is refreshed nightly—not continuously
The State Court public-search system states that its data is refreshed each night.
That creates an important timing issue:
State Court caps broad searches at 5,000 results
The current State Court search guide states that only the first 5,000 records are retrieved.
If a common surname generates a large result set:
- add the first name;
- add the middle name if known;
- add criminal birth year where appropriate;
- use a filing-date range;
- select Civil or Criminal correctly; or
- use the exact case number when available.
Inactive State Court parties can still appear in a search
Cobb’s current search documentation says an inactive party remains searchable. An inactive/expired party relationship can display an end or expiration date.
A misdemeanor arrest may not appear in State Court yet
This is one of the most useful Cobb-specific criminal-record details.
The State Court Clerk explains that an arrest case is not available through the State Court Clerk until the Solicitor General officially files an accusation and the Clerk dockets it.
Before that happens, information may instead be associated with:
- Cobb Magistrate Court;
- the Solicitor General’s Office; or
- another earlier criminal-processing stage.
Cobb Magistrate Court has a separate enhanced search
Cobb Magistrate Court handles a very different mix of cases from State and Superior Court.
Its jurisdiction includes matters such as:
- small claims within the court’s jurisdictional limit;
- dispossessory / eviction proceedings;
- garnishments;
- abandoned motor vehicle matters;
- certain bad-check proceedings;
- ordinance matters;
- criminal warrant processes; and
- early criminal proceedings within its authority.
How to search Cobb Magistrate Court records
- Open the official Magistrate Judicial Records Search page. Follow the county’s enhanced search link.
- Select Civil or Criminal. The portal separates the two major record groups.
- Select the case type if known. Or leave the search broader when you do not know the category.
- Enter the party name. Use the first/last-name fields as provided.
- Use phonetic search only when necessary. The Magistrate guide identifies phonetic searching for first and last names.
- Add a filing-date range to narrow results. This helps when the surname is common.
- Use the exact case number if known. The portal’s documentation uses formats similar to 24-A-12345.
- Review the result’s party status. Inactive parties can remain searchable.
- Open Case Details. Review the underlying case information.
- Use the Documents option when a publicly available document is offered. The Magistrate interface can open available document records in a separate browser tab.
Magistrate records also refresh nightly and cap broad results
Like Cobb State Court’s enhanced search, the Magistrate Court system currently:
- refreshes data nightly;
- can therefore lag same-day internal court updates;
- returns no more than the first 5,000 search results;
- allows result-column filtering; and
- retains searchable information about inactive parties/attorneys with end-date information where available.
Magistrate Court copy fees
The current Cobb Magistrate Court fee page lists:
| Record service | Current listed fee |
|---|---|
| Ordinary copy | $0.10 per page |
| Certified copy stamp / seal | $2.50 |
Verify the current total with Magistrate Court before payment. Separate filing, service and card-transaction charges can apply to other Magistrate transactions and should not be confused with basic record-copy charges.
Small claims in Cobb: the $15,000 line matters
Cobb Magistrate Court currently describes its small-claims jurisdiction as claims of $15,000 or less.
| Claim / issue | Likely starting court |
|---|---|
| Qualifying money claim ≤ $15,000 | Magistrate Court |
| Civil dispute above Magistrate limit | State or Superior Court depending on jurisdiction and requested relief |
| Equitable relief / title-to-land issue | Superior Court |
| Eviction / dispossessory | Magistrate Court is the normal Cobb starting point |
Superior Court is the record system for felony trials, divorce and exclusive equity matters
Cobb Superior Court is a court of general jurisdiction. It shares jurisdiction with State Court over many matters, but it also has exclusive jurisdiction over key categories that make portal selection much easier.
Superior Court has exclusive jurisdiction over:
- divorce;
- title to land;
- equity matters requiring Superior Court jurisdiction; and
- felony jury trials.
How to search Cobb Superior Court records
- Open the Cobb Superior Court Clerk’s official Records Search page.
- Select Search Court Records, not Search Real Estate Records.
- Choose the Civil Search or Criminal Search route that matches the case.
- Use the case number when known.
- If searching by party information, use only the fields supported by the live Clerk interface.
- Review every plausible result for a common name.
- Confirm the case type and filing date.
- Open the docket/case information.
- Read the final order or disposition before describing the outcome.
- If you need an official copy, move to the Clerk’s Request Copies or eCertification service.
Cobb Superior Court certified-copy options
The Superior Court Clerk’s current Request Copies page lists preconfigured charges for several commonly requested court-record packages.
| Document package | Regular copy | Certified copy |
|---|---|---|
| Final Divorce Decree | $3 | $10 |
| Final Divorce Decree + Settlement Agreement | $9 | $24 |
| All Civil Documents package | $3 | $10 |
| All Criminal Documents package | $3 | $8 |
| Criminal Disposition Package | $5 | $14 |
The Clerk currently describes the Criminal Disposition Package as including records such as the final disposition, plea statement, plea questionnaire, indictment and qualifying revocation/consent orders.
How to request a Cobb Superior Court copy by mail
- Find the case first. Save the Superior Court case number.
- Identify the exact document or package. Do not request “everything” if you only need one final order.
- Determine whether certification is necessary. Ask the agency or organization receiving the record.
- Prepare a written request. Include the case number, party names and requested document.
- Calculate or confirm the current Clerk fee. Use the current Request Copies page.
- Prepare the accepted payment. The current Clerk page says mailed requests require advance payment by cashier’s check or money order payable to the Cobb Superior Court Clerk; personal checks are not accepted for that process.
- Include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Follow the Clerk’s current mail-return instructions.
- Mail the request to the File Room. Use the Clerk’s current mailing address below.

A Cobb divorce record is not a marriage record
| Record | Correct office |
|---|---|
| Divorce petition | Cobb Superior Court Clerk |
| Final divorce decree | Cobb Superior Court Clerk |
| Settlement agreement filed in divorce case | Cobb Superior Court Clerk |
| Marriage license / marriage-related Probate Court record | Cobb Probate Court |
Divorce decree search workflow
- Search the parties through Cobb Superior Court.
- Confirm the action is a domestic/divorce case.
- Save the case number.
- Review the docket for the final judgment/decree.
- Check for later modification or contempt proceedings if relevant.
- If only informational research is needed, the docket may be enough.
- If legal proof is required, request the actual final decree.
- Choose regular, certified or electronic certification according to the recipient’s requirements.
Probate Court has its own search—and no login is required for ordinary public records
Cobb Probate Court’s Case Status & Records Search is structurally different from the county’s other portals.
The Court states that its case-management web portal provides access to qualifying:
- Probate Estate records;
- license records;
- case-status information;
- docket information; and
- publicly available document images.
No login is required for ordinary public viewing through this Probate portal.
Cobb Probate records have an unusually deep historical index
The Probate Court’s current records page provides a Complete Index of Filings from 1825 through 2025, plus current 2026 quarterly indexes.

Juvenile Court should not be treated as a public name-search database
Cobb Juvenile Court handles matters involving minors, including dependency and qualifying delinquency, unruly and juvenile traffic proceedings within its jurisdiction.
The Juvenile Court Clerk maintains:
- juvenile case records;
- court calendars;
- hearing notices; and
- authorized certified-document requests.
Attorneys of record can use Cobb Juvenile Court’s authorized document-request procedure when an Entry of Appearance is on file. Public or third-party access is governed by Georgia juvenile confidentiality law and court rules.
Traffic records: location inside Cobb County determines the court
Cobb State Court explains that state-law traffic violations occurring in unincorporated Cobb County are handled in State Court.
But these incorporated cities maintain their own Municipal Courts:
Marietta Municipal Court is a good example of why municipal records need separate research
Marietta Municipal Court

Marietta, GA 30060
Phone: 770-794-5400
Current Clerk hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Marietta’s record guidance applies only to offenses handled by Marietta Municipal Court. Its current retention guidance distinguishes different offense categories rather than promising permanent online access.
Current Marietta copy guidance also lists:
- up to 10 pages without a copy charge;
- $0.10 per page after that threshold; and
- $5 for a certified copy.
Why one criminal incident can require three Cobb searches
A serious criminal matter can move through more than one court-related stage.
For a misdemeanor
The arrest/warrant process may appear in Magistrate Court before the Solicitor General files the accusation in State Court.
For a felony
Early warrant/preliminary activity can occur in Magistrate Court. If the prosecution advances as a felony, Superior Court becomes the key trial-court record.
Arrest, accusation and conviction are not the same thing
| Stage | What it means | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Arrest | Law enforcement took a person into custody or initiated an arrest event. | It does not establish guilt. |
| Warrant | A judicial warrant process occurred. | It is not a conviction. |
| Accusation / indictment | Formal criminal allegations were filed. | The allegation still must be resolved through the legal process. |
| Plea | The defendant formally responded/resolved a charge in the manner recorded. | Read the final judgment and all counts. |
| Dismissal | The identified charge/case was dismissed. | A different count or separate case can have another outcome. |
| Acquittal | The defendant was found not guilty on the relevant charge. | Check other counts in the same case. |
| Conviction | A conviction was entered. | Do not describe every original accusation as a conviction. |
| Sentence | The court entered a sentence/order. | It does not necessarily show the person’s current custody status today. |
State Court copies cost differently from Superior and Magistrate copies
Cobb State Court’s current Clerk guidance lists:
| State Court record service | Current listed fee |
|---|---|
| Ordinary copy | $0.25 per page |
| Certified copy | $3 certification stamp/seal + $0.25 per page |
| Exemplified copy | $5 certificate/seal + $0.25 per page |
Older State Court civil records can be offsite
The current State Court Civil Division explains that:
- approximately 10 years of civil/eviction cases are maintained onsite;
- completed civil cases filed before 2006 can be stored offsite;
- garnishment retention follows its own schedule; and
- older completed cases can require offsite retrieval or use of the Clerk’s document-imaging resources.
The Clerk currently lists a $7 advance fee to order a qualifying pre-2006 completed civil file from offsite storage.
Court dates: use the court’s calendar, not a cached search result
Cobb’s courts publish calendar and docket information through their own systems.
For urgent scheduling:
- confirm which court has the case;
- open the current court calendar or case docket;
- check the listed judge/division;
- check the date/time again near the hearing;
- remember State and Magistrate public-search data refresh nightly; and
- call the Clerk when a same-day discrepancy could affect an appearance.
Superior Court has a current calendar-label warning
The Superior Court Clerk’s 2026 calendar page currently warns that, until further notice, calendars labeled “Jury Trial Call Calendars” are actually “Trial Status Calendars.”
Cobb’s official web domain changed in 2025
Cobb County Government transitioned its main official website from cobbcounty.org to cobbcounty.gov effective June 2, 2025.
Older bookmarks and search results may still contain `.org` links or redirects, and some court applications continue to operate on dedicated Cobb/vendor subdomains.
Georgia state appeals are not searched through Cobb’s trial-court portals
A Cobb trial-court docket and a Georgia appellate docket are related but separate records.
Most Georgia appeals are handled by the Georgia Court of Appeals, while certain categories fall within the Supreme Court of Georgia under Georgia’s appellate jurisdiction rules.
Supreme Court of Georgia public case search
The Supreme Court’s public docket-search system currently provides case information for Supreme Court matters docketed within the portal’s stated recent coverage period.
The Court’s public portal states that it covers Supreme Court cases docketed in the last five years.

If the Cobb County court search shows nothing, use this sequence
Cobb no-result decision path
- Are you searching the correct Cobb court? Superior, State, Magistrate and Probate have separate portals.
- Was the arrest very recent? A misdemeanor arrest may not appear in State Court until the Solicitor files the accusation.
- Could the criminal matter still be in Magistrate? Check the early warrant/preliminary stage.
- Is it a felony that advanced? Search Superior Court after checking Magistrate.
- Was the traffic citation inside an incorporated city? Check Marietta, Smyrna, Powder Springs, Acworth, Kennesaw or Austell Municipal Court as appropriate.
- Is the State Court record older than the online coverage? Civil web coverage starts March 17, 1997; traffic/misdemeanor web coverage starts April 26, 1999.
- Is a completed State Court civil file older than 2006? It may be in offsite storage.
- Is it an estate or will? Use the separate Probate portal and historical filing indexes.
- Did you use a broad common name? Add dates, middle name, case type or case number.
- Did a nightly data delay affect the result? State and Magistrate public searches can lag same-day court-system updates.
- Is the record juvenile, sealed or otherwise restricted? Do not attempt to bypass the restriction.
- Is it an appeal or federal matter? Move to the Georgia appellate courts or PACER.
How to verify you found the right Cobb County person
- Confirm the specific court.
- Confirm the complete case number.
- Confirm first, middle and last name where available.
- Check filing year.
- Check case type.
- Check party role.
- Use birth year only through the official court system where lawfully provided.
- Check whether the person is an active or inactive party.
- Compare attorney information when useful.
- Read the disposition.
- Check Magistrate-to-State/Superior progression in criminal cases.
- Check appellate records when an appeal exists.
Search result, docket, document and certified record are different
| Record level | What it provides | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Search result | Possible case match. | Does not prove identity or final outcome. |
| Case details / docket | Chronology, party and event information. | A docket description is not necessarily the full filed document. |
| Document image | Copy of a public filing where the portal allows it. | Not every Cobb court or case type exposes document images in the same way. |
| Plain copy | Officially reproduced document. | Not certified. |
| Certified copy | Clerk-certified reproduction. | Certification authenticates the copy; it does not prove every allegation in the document is true. |
| eCertified copy | Electronic certified Superior Court record through supported GSCCCA service. | The receiving institution must accept electronic certification. |
Court record vs jail, property and marriage records
| Information needed | Correct source |
|---|---|
| Superior Court case | Cobb Superior Court Clerk |
| State Court case | Cobb State Court Clerk |
| Magistrate case | Cobb Magistrate Court |
| Estate / will / marriage-license Probate record | Cobb Probate Court |
| Current jail / custody status | Cobb Sheriff’s Office / detention authority |
| Deed / land instrument | Cobb Superior Court Clerk Real Estate Records |
| Georgia appellate case | Georgia Court of Appeals / Supreme Court of Georgia |
| Federal case | Northern District of Georgia / PACER |
What to do after you find the Cobb case
- Save the complete case number. It is the most reliable key for later searches.
- Record the court. Superior, State and Magistrate cases are not interchangeable.
- Confirm the party role. Plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent and garnishee mean different things.
- Read the docket in chronological order. Later events can change earlier allegations or rulings.
- Locate the final disposition. For criminal cases, distinguish dismissal, acquittal, plea and conviction.
- Check for later cases or appeals. A matter can progress from Magistrate to State/Superior and then into appellate court.
- Identify the exact document needed. Do not automatically order the whole file.
- Determine whether certification is required. Ask the receiving organization before paying for it.
- Recheck court dates close to the appearance. Schedules and web data can change.
FCRA and background-screening limitation
Public-Court-Records.us is not a Consumer Reporting Agency and does not provide consumer reports under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
This guide should not be used as an employment, tenant, credit, insurance or other FCRA-regulated eligibility-screening product.
A public Cobb court search can also produce same-name matches, cases that were dismissed, accusations that never became convictions, and incomplete procedural histories when only one court level is searched.

Frequently asked questions about Cobb County court records
1. What is the official Cobb County GA court records search?
There is no single Cobb County search covering every court. Superior Court, State Court, Magistrate Court and Probate Court each have separate official record-search systems. Juvenile records have specialized restrictions, and municipal traffic cases can belong to a separate city court.
2. How do I search Cobb County State Court records by name?
Open Cobb State Court’s enhanced record search, select Civil or Criminal, and enter the last/company name plus first name where known. The current system also supports middle name, filing dates, phonetic name search and criminal birth year. Broad searches return no more than the first 5,000 records.
3. Why does a recent Cobb misdemeanor arrest not appear in State Court?
Cobb State Court explains that an arrest case does not become available through the State Court Clerk until the Solicitor General officially files an accusation and the Clerk dockets it. Before then, the matter can appear in Magistrate Court or remain at the Solicitor General stage.
4. Where do I search Cobb County felony records?
For the felony trial prosecution, search Cobb Superior Court. For the complete early timeline, also check Cobb Magistrate Court because warrants and preliminary proceedings can occur there before the felony advances into Superior Court.
5. Where do I find Cobb County divorce records?
Divorce is within Cobb Superior Court’s exclusive jurisdiction. Search the Superior Court record first, then use the Superior Court Clerk’s copy-request or eCertification service when you need the actual final divorce decree or a certified copy.
6. Can I search Cobb Probate Court records online?
Yes. Cobb Probate Court provides a separate case-status and records portal, and ordinary public viewing does not require a login. The Court also provides a historical Complete Index of Filings covering 1825 through 2025 plus current 2026 quarterly indexes. Sensitive information can still be concealed.
7. How far back does the Cobb State Court online search go?
The current State Court search states that civil cases are available online from March 17, 1997 forward, while traffic and misdemeanor cases are available from April 26, 1999 forward. Older records can require direct Clerk research or offsite retrieval.
8. Is a Cobb traffic citation always in State Court?
No. State-law traffic violations occurring in unincorporated Cobb County go to State Court. Marietta, Smyrna, Powder Springs, Acworth, Kennesaw and Austell operate Municipal Courts for qualifying violations inside their city limits. Use the court name printed on the citation.
9. Where do I search an appeal from a Cobb County case?
