Search Rockwall County court records through the right court and the right clerk

Rockwall County court records are easier to find when you separate three questions: Which court has the case? Which clerk keeps the record? and Do you need case information or the actual document?

This guide walks through Rockwall County’s official Judicial Case Search, the 382nd, 439th and 503rd District Courts, County Courts at Law No. 1 and No. 2, misdemeanor records, probate and guardianship files, Justice Courts, hearings, copies, appeals and federal cases.

Current court structure

Older Rockwall County court guides may now be incomplete

Rockwall County now has three District Courts.

The current official county courthouse directory lists the 382nd District Court, 439th District Court and 503rd District Court.

The 503rd Judicial District Court was created in 2025 and began operating in December 2025. A website or article that still lists only the 382nd and 439th District Courts may therefore be outdated.

Courthouse floor guide

Most major Rockwall County court offices are in one courthouse—but on different floors

4TH 439th · 382nd · 503rd · County Court at Law No. 2
3RD JP Precincts 1–4 · County Court at Law No. 1
2ND District Clerk · Suite 200
1ST County Clerk · Suite 100
Main courthouse:

1111 East Yellowjacket Lane, Rockwall, Texas 75087.

Why this matters:

A visitor can arrive at the correct building but still go to the wrong clerk. District Clerk and County Clerk functions are separate even though both offices are inside the same courthouse.

Useful shortcut:

For a District Court document, start with Suite 200. For a Class A/B misdemeanor or County Clerk probate file, start with Suite 100.

County Courts at Law

Rockwall County Court at Law files can involve both the County Clerk and District Clerk

Rockwall County currently has County Court at Law No. 1 and County Court at Law No. 2. Their official pages describe broad jurisdiction including misdemeanor criminal cases, civil matters, family law, juvenile cases, probate, guardianships and mental-health matters.

The clerk depends on the type of County Court at Law file.

Rockwall County specifically states that files of County Courts at Law No. 1 and No. 2 are maintained by both the County Clerk on the first floor and the District Clerk on the second floor.

Before requesting a copy, identify whether the record is a misdemeanor, probate, family, civil or other filing so you can contact the correct clerk.

Troubleshooting

Why a Rockwall County court record may not appear in your search

Common search failures and practical next steps
Problem Possible explanation What to do next
No result for a known felony Search criteria may be wrong or the record may require District Clerk assistance. Retry Smart Search and contact 972-204-6500.
Misdemeanor record is missing The matter may be filed through a County Court at Law or another court. Use Judicial Case Search, then contact the County Clerk.
Justice Court ticket is missing You may be searching the wrong JP precinct. Confirm Precinct 1, 2, 3 or 4.
Eviction search is missing Evictions belong to the Justice Court precinct where venue is proper. Use the Rockwall County Precinct Finder.
Probate record is difficult to locate The County Clerk manages probate and guardianship filings. Contact County Clerk at 972-204-6300.
Hearing is not obvious in Smart Search The portal provides a separate Search Hearings function. Search the hearing directly.
Case is in an old article but court number looks different Rockwall County added the 503rd Judicial District Court in 2025. Use the current county court directory.
Matter is an appeal The appellate case is separate from the trial-court record. Search the Fifth Court of Appeals.
Matter is federal Federal cases are not in Rockwall County Judicial Case Search. Use PACER.
A blank search is not a certificate that no case exists. Wrong court selection, wrong JP precinct, spelling differences, restricted information, a recently filed event, an appeal or a federal case can all lead to an apparently empty result.

Responsible record use

A court record should be read as a timeline—not as a label attached to a person

Criminal cases

A charge, complaint, indictment, citation or warrant entry does not establish guilt. Read later docket events and the disposition.

Civil, family and probate cases

A person’s appearance in the case does not establish fault, liability, ownership or who ultimately prevailed.
