Dallas County felony records

Felony records are maintained by the Dallas County District Clerk.

• Criminal case information is available online back to 1975.
• Online documents are available for most felony cases filed after 2009.
• Sealed or confidential records are not available through ordinary public online access.
• Records containing protected victim or child information can have additional access limits.

Why May 1, 2023 matters

Dallas County moved felony court operations into Odyssey on May 1, 2023, replacing its older mainframe environment. Historical records were converted into the newer system.

Dallas district civil records

A civil case can therefore appear in search results even though the actual pleading, judgment or order is not downloadable online.

Dallas Family Court records

Family records need more careful handling than ordinary civil records. Dallas County currently states that normal public internet access to Family Court records is suspended because these files can contain sensitive information involving finances and minor children.

How to obtain a Dallas divorce decree

1. Confirm the divorce was filed in Dallas County.
2. Identify both parties and the approximate year.
3. Find the case number if available.
4. Contact the District Clerk Civil & Family Records Desk.
5. Ask specifically for the divorce decree.
6. Determine whether the receiving institution requires a plain, certified or exemplified copy.
7. Request the current cost before making payment.

Dallas County misdemeanor records

County-level misdemeanor cases are maintained by the Dallas County Clerk, not by the District Clerk felony records office.

Dallas County currently provides plain-copy misdemeanor records from 2011 to the present through the county court portal.

Probate cases are Dallas County Clerk records. This includes estate proceedings and many guardianship matters.

Dallas County Justice Court records

8. Confirm the exact precinct and place before requesting documents.

City of Dallas citations use Municipal Court

Do not send a City of Dallas traffic or municipal citation to the Dallas County felony records office.

The Dallas Municipal Court search currently supports identifiers such as:

• citation number;
• name and date of birth;
• docket number;
• PD case number.

A very recently issued citation may not appear immediately in the online system.
