Montgomery County OH Court Records Search: PRO, Probate, Dayton & Certified Copies
Find official court records in Dayton, Huber Heights, Trotwood and other Montgomery County communities. Use the Clerk of Courts Public Records Online system for covered cases, a separate Probate Court search for estates and guardianships, or the appropriate municipal court for local matters.
Search the right court first. Online images and certified records are not the same thing.
Where to search Montgomery County Ohio court records
The official Montgomery County Clerk of Courts provides Public Records Online (PRO), its county case-search system. PRO covers several court divisions, but it does not replace the separate Montgomery County Probate Court search or Dayton Municipal Court’s own case-search tools.
The critical distinction is the court that accepted the filing, not the city where someone lives. A Dayton resident might have a case in Common Pleas Court, Dayton Municipal Court, Montgomery County Municipal Court or Probate Court depending on the subject and jurisdiction.
Which Montgomery County court records system do you need?
Select the record category below. The helper runs locally in your browser, without collecting personal names or case numbers.
Felony cases normally belong to the Common Pleas General Division. Use the official PRO portal and verify the case type, defendant, filing date and docket. The Clerk handles records and certified copies.
Montgomery County OH court records by case type
Different court divisions maintain different case files. Use this table to avoid searching probate matters in PRO or Dayton Municipal cases in the county Municipal division.
| Record needed | Court / system | First action |
|---|---|---|
| Felony criminal record | Common Pleas General Division — PRO | Use case number or party name and select the relevant criminal case type. |
| General civil lawsuit or foreclosure | Common Pleas General Division — PRO | Search civil case type; use the action-type and filing-date filters to narrow results. |
| Divorce, dissolution, custody, support | Common Pleas Domestic Relations — PRO | Search the domestic-relations case, but expect document restrictions where sensitive information is involved. |
| Estate, guardianship, adoption or name change | Montgomery County Probate Court | Use the separate Probate Case Search and check confidentiality before requesting documents. |
| County Municipal small claims, civil, traffic or misdemeanor | Montgomery County Municipal Court — PRO | Verify Eastern or Western Division and case type. |
| Dayton Municipal traffic, criminal or civil matter | Dayton Municipal Court’s separate system | Use the Dayton Clerk’s defendant, civil or case-number search pages. |
| Second District appellate case | Second District Court of Appeals — PRO | Search the appellate docket and compare the originating court and case number. |
| Federal civil, criminal or bankruptcy | Federal judiciary — PACER | Use the federal district or bankruptcy court and PACER rather than PRO. |
How to use Montgomery County Public Records Online (PRO)
PRO is operated by the Montgomery County Clerk of Courts. The current PRO version provides General Search, Attorney Search and Docket Search functions. Its General Search supports more options than a simple name-only search.
Open official PRO v3Start on pro.mcohio.org. The General Search panel provides case number, last name, first name, company name and ticket number fields.
A complete case number usually narrows the search more effectively than a common name. Do not remove characters or change number formats without checking the portal.
Enter the available party information. For a business case, use Company Name rather than assuming that the owner’s name is a party.
PRO supports Case Type, Action Type, Begin Date and End Date. The portal returns only the first 1,000 results for a search, so narrow broad searches with these filters.
Compare the filing date, court, parties, case category and docket activity. Do not assume that two people sharing a name are the same person.
PRO includes eligible redacted document images. The Clerk notes that documents normally become viewable approximately 48 to 72 hours after filing, although delays and access restrictions may occur.
Review later entries for judgment, dismissal, sentence, modification, appeal or other orders. The existence of a charge, complaint or filing does not establish guilt or liability.
Find a Montgomery County court date or hearing
PRO includes a Docket Search with a judge selection, beginning date, time-span option and a setting to show resulted events. This can help locate court schedules, but the actual court or attorney should confirm a recently changed hearing.
Use the same official PRO portal as the main case search.
Use the judge selector, beginning date and time-span field to narrow the docket.
Compare the case number and scheduled proceeding. Contact the attorney, probation officer or court if a mandatory appearance is uncertain.
Montgomery County Probate Court records search
Montgomery County Probate Court maintains a separate case-search service. This is the correct starting point for estates, trusts, guardianships, marriage licenses, name changes and other probate matters. The Probate Judge also serves as Clerk of Probate Court.

Important court-record limitations
Montgomery County court records may contain incomplete case activity, allegations, corrected filings or redacted information. A matching name alone does not establish identity. A criminal charge is not a conviction, and a civil complaint is not proof of liability.
Do not use this page to conduct FCRA-regulated employment, tenant, insurance or credit screening. Do not republish protected information, attempt to access sealed cases or use court information for harassment. Contact the responsible court or an attorney for issues involving correction, sealing, expungement, official certification or legal interpretation.
