Montgomery County TX Court Records Search: Odyssey, Dockets, Clerks & Certified Copies

Montgomery County has two main Odyssey case-search portals, separate Justice Courts and city courts. The correct portal depends on whether you need a felony case, divorce, civil lawsuit, probate file or traffic citation.

Independent website notice: Public-Court-Records.us is not Montgomery County, a Texas court, a government agency, a law firm or a Consumer Reporting Agency. A court search result is not an identity verification report. Do not use this page for employment, housing, credit, insurance or other FCRA-regulated screening decisions.
Start with the right court

Which Montgomery County court has your record?

The District Clerk and County Clerk are different custodians. A real case may appear missing when you search the wrong Odyssey portal.

District Clerk Odyssey → Criminal Records

Felony criminal case files are maintained by the District Clerk. Select Criminal Records in the District Clerk public portal, not the County Clerk portal.

Search walkthrough

How to search Montgomery County court records by name or cause number

  1. Identify the case level. Review the case notice, charging document, summons or filing for District Court, County Court at Law, Probate Court, Justice Court or municipal court.
  2. Open the correct Odyssey portal. Choose District Clerk for felony, district civil and family records; County Clerk for county criminal, county civil and probate records.
  3. Select the location/category. Choose Criminal Records, Civil & Family, Civil & Probate or Court Calendar, depending on the portal.
  4. Use the cause number when possible. A cause number is usually the most accurate way to identify a specific court case. If searching by name, use the available party-name fields and supported filters.
  5. Verify the match. Compare court name, case number, filing date, party role, case type and docket activity. Several people can share the same name.
  6. Review the case events. Look for motions, hearings, signed orders, judgment entries, dismissals, plea information or other filings relevant to the case.
  7. Request the document if needed. Public case information does not guarantee every document image is available online. Ask the correct Clerk for a plain or certified copy.

Official documents

How to request a certified Montgomery County court record

If you need a judgment, divorce decree, criminal disposition, probate order or other document for official use, obtain it from the Clerk that maintains the original case file. A screenshot or case-search result is not a certified copy.

  1. Find the case. Use District Clerk or County Clerk Odyssey and save the cause number.
  2. Identify the custodian. Determine whether the District Clerk or County Clerk maintains the file.
  3. Identify the specific document. Ask for the judgment, order, decree, disposition or other document, rather than requesting an unspecified complete file.
  4. Check copy charges. Confirm page count, certification charge and accepted payment methods.
  5. Use the current request form. Download the form from the responsible Clerk and complete every required field.
  6. Confirm delivery and follow-up. Ask about mail, pickup and expected processing time. Keep copies of the form and payment record.

Local exceptions

Justice Courts, traffic tickets and municipal cases are separate

Justice of the Peace courts handle many smaller civil cases, evictions, debt claims, Class C misdemeanors and traffic matters. Montgomery County has five JP precincts. The correct precinct can depend on where a case or citation was filed.

Justice of the Peace cases

Do not assume JP records are in District Clerk or County Clerk Odyssey. Check the precinct named on the case paperwork. Some JP precincts provide separate Odyssey or citation-search options.

Municipal traffic cases

Citations from Conroe, Willis, Magnolia, Oak Ridge North, Shenandoah, Panorama Village and other municipalities may be handled by their own municipal courts. Read the exact court printed on the ticket.

Justice Court Precinct 3 citation search

Precinct 3 has an authorized citation-search interface offering cause or citation number, driver’s license, vehicle information, name and business-name search methods. The safest starting point is a citation or cause number.

Open JP Precinct 3 search →

Do not share private identifiers here. Some official JP portals offer driver-license, Social Security or date-of-birth fields. Only provide identifiers directly on an authorized official system when genuinely necessary.
Different record systems

Court records are not the same as deeds, jail records or vital records

Court records

Lawsuits, criminal cases, divorce, custody, probate, judgments and hearing dockets belong with the appropriate court Clerk.

Recorded public documents

Deeds, mortgages, recorded liens, releases, subdivisions and document numbers use the County Clerk’s Official Records Search.

Jail and booking records

Current custody, booking and Sheriff records are different from a court disposition. Use the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for Sheriff-held records.

Birth, death and marriage records

The County Clerk’s Vital Records and marriage services use different procedures from the court-case Odyssey systems.

State and federal records

Appeals and federal court records involving Montgomery County

Texas appellate cases

State appeals from Montgomery County commonly proceed through the Ninth Court of Appeals, subject to applicable jurisdiction rules. Search the Texas appellate case system for appellate dockets, opinions and available documents. The appeal may have a different case number from the original trial case.

Troubleshooting

Why a Montgomery County case might not appear online

Check the search first

  • Wrong Clerk Odyssey portal.
  • Wrong Criminal, Civil, Family or Probate category.
  • Name spelling or party-role mismatch.
  • Wrong cause number or filing year.
  • JP or municipal case searched in District Court.

Check access and custody

  • New case not yet indexed.
  • Older file not fully digitized.
  • Sealed or expunged proceeding.
  • Juvenile, adoption or other confidential matter.
  • Case transferred, appealed or filed federally.
Next step: give the appropriate Clerk the case type, court, parties, approximate filing period and cause number if known. Ask whether the file is available online, on paper, archived, restricted or maintained by another court.
Read records responsibly

What docket entries do — and do not — prove

Filing: indicates that a document was submitted, not that every allegation is true. Indictment or charge: an accusation, not a conviction. Motion: a party’s request to the court. Judgment: a court ruling that may later be appealed, amended, vacated or satisfied. Disposition: the recorded outcome, which should be checked against the relevant signed order or judgment.

For civil judgments, a docket may show the original judgment without proving whether it has been paid. For criminal cases, arrest and booking information does not establish conviction. Avoid matching a case to an individual based solely on a common name.

Confidentiality: Do not attempt to bypass sealing, expunction, juvenile confidentiality, protected-person redactions or other restrictions. Do not republish sensitive information unnecessarily or use court-record information to harass anyone.
